Straight 2 the Plate® Mobile Garden Classroom

Let’s End Hunger by Empowering People to Grow Healthy Food at Home (even with no land access) & Become Less Reliant on Handouts!

The Healthy Day Partners (HDP) Straight 2 the Plate® (S2TP) Mobile Garden Classroom is a mobile, staffed program tackling food insecurity and health issues in San Diego County while reducing the carbon impact of traditional and global food systems.

S2TP empowers low-income residents with limited land and transportation resources to create complete, portable home gardens. Building on HDP’s Grab & Grow Gardens program, S2TP provides participants with hands-on support. They choose from recycled, reusable, food-grade 5-gallon buckets, smaller self-watering containers, or windowsill containers and fill them with quality soil and natural fertilizers and seasonally relevant seedlings. Participants also receive a hands-on food growing lesson, growing instructions, climate smart planting calendars,, and local resource guides to support year-round food growing and success year after year.

By partnering with food distribution and affordable housing organizations, S2TP fosters equal access to healthy food across vulnerable communities, greener spaces, and self-sufficiency.

Thanks to our food distribution, affordable housing, and tribal community partners, these programs have empowered over 36,000 food and nutrition insecure individuals and families to grow their own food & become less dependent on handouts.
